The relationship between Thomas Walkup and Olympiacos has reached a critical point, with the American guard formally challenging the club’s unilateral contract extension and seeking to become a free agent.
Walkup has made his desire to leave Olympiacos official, turning what had been a contract dispute into a confrontation that could now have legal consequences.
The 33-year-old guard has challenged the unilateral renewal of his agreement with the Piraeus club, arguing that he should be released from his contractual obligations.
Olympiacos, however, maintains a completely different position. The club insists that the agreement between the two sides remains valid through the summer of 2027 and appears prepared to defend its position through all available legal channels.
The Greek side is also expecting Walkup to report as scheduled on Thursday, August 20, for the team’s medical and physical tests ahead of the new season.
Should the American guard fail to appear, Olympiacos has made it clear that it reserves the right to take any legal action necessary to protect its interests.
The dispute between Walkup and Olympiacos has therefore entered a new and significantly more serious phase, with the two sides now seemingly heading for a legal battle over the validity of the contract extension.
