Willy Hernangómez was presented by Málaga and, among other things, revealed that his brother Juancho had told him nothing but positive things about the club.
Málaga completed a major signing a few days ago, bringing in experienced center Willy Hernangómez.
The Spanish big man was officially presented by the club and spoke about the role his brother Juancho played in convincing him to make the move.
His full comments:
“I will give 120% in every practice and every game. Whatever the club and coach Ibon Navarro ask of me, I will do.
The fact that this club and Ibon Navarro are working together is what led me to make this decision. He is a coach with a long history who has brought out the best in many players.
Here I want to feel like a player. It is an opportunity to work, learn and develop because I still have many things to improve. I am not a leader. I have put on my helmet and will go to war like any other soldier.
We are coming off several years in which Unicaja have won a lot of things. The Basketball Champions League is the only competition I had not played in yet. We are very excited. We, the new players, have to become part of the family. Right now, there is a real sense of excitement and a desire to work hard.”
On the length of his contract:
“It is only for one year because I want to show this club the player I can become and how much I can contribute.”
On wearing No. 41:
“I wore it during my last spell at Real Madrid and in the NBA. My brother and sister wore it too. The fact that the three of us wore the same number and had the same surname is a source of pride.”
On Juancho:
“He told me there was no better place than Málaga to continue my career. There is no better place.”
On Berni Rodríguez:
“He has always been like an older brother to me. He was one of the first people who spoke to me. He is a legend at this club.”
“I will give my best for this club. Playing here in front of a full arena is very difficult, and now being able to play here is a pleasure.”
