A major development has emerged at ASVEL, with the Buss family reportedly entering negotiations to acquire the French club and potentially provide a solution to its recent financial problems.
According to French outlet BeBasket, the Buss family, whose name has been closely linked with the Los Angeles Lakers, is seriously considering purchasing a stake in ASVEL. Talks between the two sides have already begun, although no final agreement has been reached at this stage.
Negotiations are expected to continue in the coming months, with the aim of completing the potential takeover by the end of 2026.
One of the key issues currently being discussed is the valuation of the club. Reports suggest that the asking price for ASVEL could be somewhere between €60 million and €80 million.
The potential takeover comes after an extremely turbulent summer for Tony Parker’s club. ASVEL’s financial plans were severely affected after a prospective investor failed to provide the necessary financial guarantees. As a result, the club was forced to dramatically reduce its projected budget, with the figure reportedly dropping from €59 million to €24 million.
The financial uncertainty also had a direct impact on the team’s roster construction.
ASVEL had initially reached agreements with Sylvain Francisco and Daniel Theis, but neither transfer ultimately went through. Francisco eventually joined Panathinaikos AKTOR, while Theis moved to Maccabi Tel Aviv.
A takeover by the Buss family could therefore represent a major turning point for ASVEL, potentially restoring financial stability and allowing the club to rebuild its ambitions both domestically and in the EuroLeague.
