New ASVEL guard Sylvain Francisco has revealed that he received offers from five different clubs before deciding to continue his career in France, while emphasizing that his long-term ambition remains playing in the NBA.
Speaking to BeBasket, the French international explained why he chose ASVEL despite receiving financially identical offers from several teams.
“Five teams offered me exactly the same financial package and were willing to wait until July 20, when my NBA-out clause expires. But for me, the project in France was more attractive than any of the others. Leading a French club, fighting for a EuroLeague Final Four, and maybe even winning the EuroLeague—that would be a dream come true. I could truly picture myself there, and it’s wonderful to be closer to my family.”
Francisco also spoke about the challenges facing ASVEL under its new project and stressed that patience will be required.
“We know the first season at this level is never easy. Tony will immediately be under a lot of pressure, but the first year will be about adapting. The same applies to us as players. It’s a new project, and we’ll need time to adjust. Everyone has to find their role, just like teams such as Panathinaikos and Olympiacos, who have managed to build successful teams capable of going deep into the EuroLeague.”
Finally, the French guard admitted that an NBA move remains his ultimate objective.
“If that clause is in my contract, it’s there for a reason. My goal is still to play in the NBA. The clause expires on July 20, so everything will become clear very soon.”
Francisco’s NBA-out clause remains active until July 20, leaving the door open for a potential move across the Atlantic before he officially begins his new chapter with ASVEL.
