Barcelona has officially announced the departure of Xavi Pascual, bringing an end to the Spanish coach’s second spell in charge of the club.
Pascual took over the team midway through the 2025/26 season following the dismissal of Joan Peñarroya, but Barcelona’s campaign ultimately ended below expectations.
It had already been widely expected that the two sides would part ways this summer, with reports suggesting that Pascual is set to continue his coaching career with Dubai BC.
In its official statement, Barcelona confirmed that Pascual exercised the release clause in his contract, which had originally been set to run until 2028.
“The club announces that Xavi Pascual has activated the release clause in his contract, which was valid until 2028, and thanks him for his dedication and commitment during his second spell at Barça,” Barcelona said in its official statement.
Pascual remains one of the most successful coaches in Barcelona’s history, having enjoyed a trophy-filled first stint with the club before returning for a second tenure.
With his departure now official, Barcelona is expected to move quickly to appoint a new head coach as preparations for the 2026/27 season continue.
