Barcelona could be preparing a major move in the transfer market, with Spanish reports claiming that the Catalan club are targeting NBA center Nick Richards.
Although Barcelona took their time putting together their roster for the upcoming season, head coach Josep Maria Sèkulic has gradually filled the remaining gaps with a series of moves. Now, the Blaugrana appear to have turned their attention to the 28-year-old Jamaican big man.
According to reports from Spain, Barcelona have opened discussions with Richards as they look to bring him to Catalonia. The former NBA center is currently a free agent after finishing last season with the Chicago Bulls.
Richards joined Chicago in February after being traded by the Phoenix Suns and is now considering his options for the next stage of his career. Several NBA teams, including the Los Angeles Lakers, Miami Heat and New York Knicks, have reportedly shown interest in the Jamaican center.
However, Barcelona appear to be emerging as serious contenders for his signature and could potentially pull off one of the biggest moves of their offseason.
Richards averaged 5.9 points and 5.2 rebounds in 14.9 minutes per game with the Bulls last season. His potential arrival would add size, athleticism and NBA experience to Barcelona’s frontcourt.
